  • FCPS will have 700 more students in 2000-01 than last year, bringing enrollment to 36,800. Enrollment has increased 31% in less than a decade.

  • FCPS has 49 traditional schools and 4 specialized schools serving pre-kindergarten through grade 12. One new school opened this year, and three more will open in fall 2001.

  • This year, the state and county have committed more than $80 million for new schools, renovations and additions, technology and land.

  • More than 80% of our $255 million operating budget for 2000-01 goes directly to schools and school support.

  • FCPS ranks in the top third of 24 school systems on the rigorous Maryland School Performance Assessment Program tests. Combined SAT-I scores consistently surpass the state and nation.
  • FCPS has 4,150 employees, including 2,200 teachers.

  • Nearly 87% of our students are white, and 13% are African American, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander or Native American.

  • 70% of high school seniors indicate plans to continue their education at college, technical schools or in the military.

  • 95% of 1,130 employers surveyed said FCPS students were well prepared for the work expected of them at their place of business.

  • Our schools average 1 computer for every 7 students, and every school is Internet-connected.
