
The Facilities Planning section of the division is located at 7630 Hayward Road. Including the Executive Director of Facilities Services, this section includes two professional staff and 1.5 support positions. The principal responsibility of this section is to assess long-term school construction needs and to prepare a program of school construction and capital renovations, which address these needs. In performing this function, this section relies on the expertise of the other sections of the Facilities Services Division as well as other members of the FCPS administration. Coordination with outside agencies at the and local level is also a key aspect of this function.
Ongoing responsibilities are as follows:

Prepare long-range enrollment projections
for the FCPS and individual schools.
2.
Annually update the ten-year Educational
Facilities Master Plan.
3.
Coordinate preparation of the six-year
Capital Improvements Program.
4.
Conduct school redistricting studies.
5.
Coordinate land acquisition for future
school sites and processing and local
review and approvals.
6.
Administer FCPS use-of-facilities
regulations.
7.
Assist instructional directors in the
preparation of educational specifications.
8.
Review residential development plans as
required by county and municipal jurisdictions.
In September 2005, the FCPS Planning Department prepared a ten-year school construction program for approval that included 31 major projects and a six-year Capital Improvement Program that totaled $429 million in value.
