CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
Under the direction of the Director of Construction Management, this department is composed of four professional staff, 3 office support staff, and a team of inspections staff. This section is headquartered at FCPS offices at 7446 Hayward Road. The principal responsibility of this section is to manage the design and construction of new schools, major building additions and renovations, and systemic renovation projects. In this capacity, staff supervises design and construction contract consultants, coordinates with central office and school-based staff, as well as State and County review and permitting authorities.
Ongoing tasks associated with this department are as follows:
1. Manage architectural and engineering design of new schools, major building additions, and systemic renovation projects.
2. Manage construction and provide Inspection services associated with capital projects.
3. Assist in preparation of capital budget.
4. Coordinate preparation of building specifications for major capital projects.
5. Estimate costs and prioritize future major renovation needs.
6. Manage projects contained in the “Capital Outlay” chapter of the Operating Budget.
7. Manage the “Americans with Disabilities Act” program of improvements.
8. Manage the annual portable classroom relocation program.
9. Maintain “Construction Inspectors Manual” and “Project Management Procedures Manual.”
10. Coordinate special engineering studies as needed (HVAC, parking and roof assessments).
In order to address Board goals, the most recently approved Board six-year Capital Improvement Program included projects, which totaled approximately $429 million in state and local funding over the FY2007-FY2012 time frame.
