Mrs. Jean A. Smith was elected in November 2002 to a 4-year term
on the Board of Education to be served December 2002-2006. She also
served appointed terms on the Board from September 1994 until her
election. A trained x-ray technician who attended the University
of Michigan, Mrs. Smith describes herself as a "professional
volunteer."
Mrs. Smith has served as president and vice president of the Board
of Education. She has also served as president of the PTA Council
of Frederick County, volunteer coordinator for an elementary, middle
and high school, and Board of Directors member of the Maryland Congress
of Parents and Teachers. She has also served on the FCPS Ethics
and Values Committee and chaired the Ballenger Creek Middle School
Redistricting Committee. On the administrative board of the Bethesda
United Methodist Church for two years, Mrs. Smith was also a member
of the Penn Shop Regional Civic Association.
Mrs. Smith and her husband, Jack, are the parents of Deborah and
Jeff, both graduates of Linganore High School, and grandparents
of Maggie.
